About Us
Tradition, quality, and community since 1981
Our Story
Founded by fishmonger John Faulkner in 1980, Faulkner’s Fish & Chips in Hackney has become a staple of East London dining. Initially named “Seashells,” it gained a reputation as the best fish and chip shop, earning numerous awards and featuring in the Walkers “Fish n’ Chips” campaign. Despite changing ownership, the commitment to traditional British comfort food and high-quality ingredients remains.
Fresh fish is sourced daily from Billingsgate Market, and the menu includes crispy battered cod, homemade pies & gözleme and sides. Faulkner’s has become a cherished part of the Hackney community, offering a blend of modern comfort and vintage charm. The restaurant aims to provide an authentic British dining experience and looks forward to serving customers for years to come.
